  • Bastei Bridge

Nestled in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, this hidden gem has been a tourist favourite for the past 200 years, making this destination worth seeing.

Just outside Dresden, the Elbe River streams past Saxony’s wine country and flows effortlessly to Bastei. Bastei, a rock formation known as the “city of stones,” dates back to the 16th century and is known for its sandstone bridge built in 1851. The various trees and mountains make for the perfect backdrop at sunrise or sunset.

The rocks are said to resemble human forms — the most popular is “The Monk,” which is described as a pair of praying hands. For thrill seekers, there's an opportunity to hike and scale the rocks. No worries, those who aren’t too keen on heights can enjoy the view via boat tour or by taking a stroll through the Saxon Switzerland National Park.
